Local 665 wins NLRB election at Saint Claire Cadillac

(San Jose) Congratulations goes out to the employees at Saint Claire Cadillac and Ed Carter this morning for their organizing victory in San Jose.

Since our merger with Teamsters Local 576 over 15 years ago, Local 665 has been unable to make inroads into the Parts Departments of Santa Clara county dealerships, until today.

Parts departments in dealerships are the better paying/better skill jobs, and they should be covered by a union contract.

Coupled with this victory is the fact that Ed went up against the notoriously anti-union Sonic Automotive Group and the Littler Mendelson law firm.

Golden Gate Bridge District is asking for public comment

The Golden Gate Bridge District is asking for public comment on proposed toll increases on its website. We have learned that the District has only received 60 comments from the public and the final day for public comment is taking place tomorrow. At this time it is very important that the District raise the tolls adequately to pay for maintaining the bridge, bus & ferry service and the staff that serve the public.

Please take 2 minutes and fill out the comment form to vote for Option 4 (Use your personal email address when you fill out the form):

Parking Industry members urged to attend hearing at City Hall

(SAN FRANCISCO) Members of Local 665 employed in the Parking Industry in San Francisco are strongly urged to attend an upcoming hearing at City Hall in support of transparency in employment hiring.

“The way it is now, too many parking operators hire workers into the underground economy, paying  cash and undercutting hard won wages and benefits” said Local 665 Secretary-Treasurer Mark Gleason.

“Passage of this legislation, sponsored by Supervisors Scott Wiener and Malia Cohen, will put a spotlight on the who and how of garage and valet work”, Gleason said.

The legislation goes before the Neighborhood Services and Safety Committee of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Thursday, February 6, 10:00 am, in the Legislative Chamber of the Board of Supervisors.

All members in San Francisco’s parking industry are encouraged to attend.
