(SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.)- On December 15, 2025 Teamsters and their supporters showed up in force at City Hall to oppose experimental drone delivery systems by tech giant DoorDash. Supervisor Jackie Fielder created the legislation and led the charge.
By the end of the hearing, elected officials sided with Teamster demands that delivery drones be grounded from takeoff into the San Francisco sky.
“Residents of our City believe that unrestricted flight by drones weighing as much as a bowling ball are a safety concern and must be stopped”, stated Principal Officer Tony Delorio Local 665.
The committee of elected officials were reviewing an appeal that would permit outdoor flight testing of delivery drones adjacent to a 35,000-square-foot warehouse leased by the tech company in recent months.
A number of labor leaders and neighborhood activists joined the Teamsters in opposing drone delivery flights.
“We appreciate the strong support we have received from concerned residents. Everyone can see that delivery drones are dangerous, invade privacy and threaten jobs”, Delorio said.
Following public comment the San Francisco Supervisors voted to amend the DoorDash drone appeal and prohibit outdoor delivery flights for the next 18 months.
The Mayor of San Francisco added his support for the 18-month moratorium.
“The Teamsters will be watching this closely for the next year and a half. If our concerns about safety, privacy rights and employment opportunities are not met, we’ll be back in force to push back”, Delorio said.
