Teamsters in the Bay Area are very saddened this week to learn about the tragic loss of Harley King and his wife Dixie, both from Petaluma, California.
Harley had been a member of Teamsters Local Union 85 in San Francisco and then Teamsters Local Union 624 located in Santa Rosa in 1993. He was employed by Rycoff Foods as a driver before he was elected as President of Teamsters Local Union 624, a position he held for many years until his retirement in 2006.
During his time as President of IBT Local 624 Harley was responsible for negotiating several contracts including, Laidlaw/First Student, several contracts in the solid waste industry, Youngs Market, Aramark, freight, and many more. He also helped many non-union workers organize to join the Teamsters for the first time. Harley would turn over every stone to make sure his members got the very best deal in negotiations and in defending them over any improper and unfair discipline. The membership had much respect for him. Our sincere condolences and prayers to his family and friends.
